Dear Editor:
How fast this newspaper disses the past, the fiery crucible where 51 people burned to death in their beds, and displacement and joblessness and poverty was rampant! Thankfully, under our present leadership, traditions were kept and improved upon, including parks and
activities and concerts.
Even Washington Street and our roads and sewers are in process of renewal and fine restaurants continue to emerge and improve, bettering the quality of life in our one mile square.
Aged factories have long been replaced by a paper trail from New York City and a new globally recognized more expansive and expensive Hoboken has emerged out of the ashes of the past.
Progress has certainly defined a newer, more trendy globalized Hoboken!
Yet, there remains a caution with many of us who have been here awhile, born here or not.
Perhaps the negative quote about those who forget the past can now hopefully be replaced and updated to include more positive language!
Something like “Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.”
