Thanks to the public for a safe and happy July 4th celebration

Dear Editor:
The 36th Annual Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular commenced on July 4, 2012 along the immediate waterfront communities surrounding the Hudson River. Once again, the City of Hoboken was a prime viewing destination for several thousand residents and non-residents who settled along the waterfront to witness the show. As in recent years past, this event required plenty of coordination with other surrounding communities and levels of government including but not limited to municipal, county, state and federal agencies.
This event required countless hours of preparation, planning and effort to achieve the public safety objectives of the day. However, the objectives of the day could not have been met without the overall cooperation and good spirit of the public at large. I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who visited Hoboken for sharing in this special event. You truly made this day a safe and enjoyable one for all.
I also want to extend a sincere thanks to all the members of this department who worked amidst the hot and muggy climate to ensure this event was carried out safely. Each and every member contributed significantly by performing their duties in an exceptional manner. The level of dedication and teamwork displayed was evident. All members of service were required to perform multi-task functions throughout the day which included maintaining security checkpoints, crowd control functions, logistics and communications, pedestrian safety and traffic control and enforcement. Although these functions are required functions of the job of a public servant, I could not have been more proud of the level of professionalism and stamina exhibited in carrying out these duties. Hats off on a job well done!
Lastly, I would like to thank the following agencies for their continued support and assistance when working with the Hoboken Police Department: Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Hudson County Rapid Deployment Force, Jersey City Police Department, Union City Police Department, Port Authority Police Department, Hudson County Sheriff’s Department, New Jersey Transit Police Department, Stevens Police Department, Weehawken Police Department, Hoboken Fire Department, Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Hoboken Traffic & Signal, Hoboken Parking Authority and Hoboken OEM.
