Doing the ordinary with extraordinary faith

Dear Editor:
I appreciate this opportunity to voice my praise for Dr. Apoltolos Voudouris, MD. Dr. Voudouris (Dr. V), my cardiologist, and when I think of him, the words that come to mind are of the theologian Walter Kasper, “extraordinary things happen, but the real extraordinary comes from doing the ordinary with extraordinary faith.”
For Dr. Voudouris the practice of cardiac medicine is ordinary; however, to me it is not and I find myself in awe of Dr. V’s compassion, determination, and talents. Before I met Dr. V, I lived a life of pain and suffering for more than 25 years. My thoughts were of dying and concern about who would take care of my family after I passed. However, because of Dr. V’s extraordinary faith, he has been able to diagnose me – at the ripe young age of 32 – with Atrial Fibrillation, a potentially serious but manageable condition. I owe a great debt to Dr. V – I no longer think of dying but am aware of what an awful lot I have to live for. Thank you Dr. V. You are an extraordinary man in whom I have extraordinary faith.
