Safety against violence and crime

Dear Editor:
‘The following is an open letter to Jersey City mayor Jerramiah Healy’.
No resident, no community should feel they cannot leave there home in Jersey City and not feel safe!
No taxi driver, no delivery person should feel they are taking their life in their hands while trying to earn a living in Jersey City!
While understanding Jersey City is an urban city and yes there will be crime challenges, the violence we have been facing in Jersey City is just not acceptable.
There are communities/areas of Jersey City where residents fear for their life everyday. We have homes that are gated, windows barred, residents living like they are prisoners in their own homes, this is no way to live.
It is just not right that residents in some communities/areas of Jersey City cannot walk the streets without fear, where as in downtown and areas of the heights for the most part residents feel safe, it should not be that way, we must not be a tale of two cities, residents must feel safe across Jersey City.
In recent articles there was mention that we have revenues 4-5 million from hotels and 1 plus millions coming in from the red light cameras. Where is this money?
Why is there no major investments made in the inner city areas of Jersey City? The infrastructure is crumbling right under you nose in many areas of Jersey City. Our streets are filthy, areas ridden with criminals that feel comfortable in Jersey City, roads are not very drive-able, in fact right out side Healy’s tavern on Newark Ave, the road is atrocious to drive on as many of the roads are as they ridden with potholes or bumpy and the streets are ripped up, we pay high enough in taxes and you cost us more in having to fix our vehicles from the damage caused on our roads.
We want to see the revenues and taxes spent on public safety!!!!!
We need the issues addressed now, especially the violent crime issue. We want solutions, not just town hall meetings or rhetoric!
