Over 1,000 Secaucus residents, Swim Center members, and their guests came out for the annual Independence Day celebration on July 2 at the local pool. Visitors swam, ate free hot dogs and ice cream, rode a mechanical bull and topped off the evening with fireworks.
“It’s great that families are out and kids are out,” said John Schwartz, director of the recreation center and town pool.
With free food, ice cream, swimming, music, and kids attractions, residents return with their families and friends time and time again for a night that culminates in a lit up sky over Secaucus.
“You can’t ask for a nicer day,” said John Voli, director of recreation. He was happy that the municipality can continue to offer the celebration by keeping costs low and celebrating days before the actual Fourth.
Residents like Mercedes and Nicole Quintanilla have returned year after year to the local celebration for the past twelve years.
“We just come here to watch the fireworks,” said Nicole. She had picked a spot on the grassy lawn hours before the fireworks were set to begin and had readied in for an entertaining evening.

“They know the best spot,” said Voli.
However, most people had a great view of explosive fireworks that filled up the sky with light after sunset.
“People get to see people they don’t often see,” said Councilman William McKeever. “It is a great sense of community.”
