NORTH BERGEN BRIEFS

Appleview hearings coming up

There will be two special Planning Board hearings this month related to a controversial condo development proposal for the North Bergen/Guttenberg border.
Hearings on the Appleview project have been scheduled for Thursday, July 12 and Thursday, July 26 at 7 p.m. The meetings will be held at the North Bergen Municipal Hall located on 4233 Kennedy Blvd.
A local activist group is sponsoring free transportation on a bus for those wishing to attend. For further details or to reserve a seat, contact siatng@msn.com.

Walk meant to bring hope

Two women from a local church are organizing a walk on July 7 at 5 p.m. in the streets of North Bergen, Guttenberg, and West New York.
The streets will be closed from 60th to 76st Street on Bergenline Avenue. The event, God Belongs in my City Prayer Walk, began in New York and has now made its way to Hudson County. The goal is to have 1,000 people attend and bring hope to the Hispanic community.
Shirts are being sold at churches throughout the three towns. For those who would like to attend and not purchase a shirt, a white plain t-shirt is all that’s needed.
Iglesia de Dios en Cristo, La Senda on 328 68th St. in Guttenberg is among the churches participating. Festivities will take place after the walk around 60th Street on Boulevard East.

Do you have an old yearbook you would like to donate to the NJ Room?

Cynthia Harris, manager of the New Jersey Room at the Jersey City main library, has been developing the yearbook collection for the last 10 years, pursuing that maybe-so-not-elusive goal of obtaining a full collection, which is estimated at more than 1,150 from the roughly 19 public private and charter high schools that have educated Jersey City teens since the early 1900s.
Currently, there are over 650 yearbooks in this ever-growing collection for the NJ Room.
Harris has decided to extend the reach of this yearbook search, including all of the communities of Hudson County, with emphasis on North Hudson. All of these books are being used to create – through the hard work of volunteers – a database of everyone who ever graduated in Hudson County. The list contains over 125,000 names and continues to grow. The library accepts volunteers to input names into library databases.
The NJ Room is located on the third floor of the Main Library, 472 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City. For more information, call: (201) 547-4503 or email: charris@jclibrary.org
