HUDSON COUNTY — This past weekend, we ran a story about Hoboken’s very visible political factions fighting over one seat on the unpaid Hoboken Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, which oversees housing for the poor on the west side of town.
Why so much fighting over an unpaid seat?
Depending on why someone wants the seat, it represents power, federal money, contracts, votes, or just a chance to help the poor. And as HUD has weakened its oversight over the years, problems have abounded at several local housing authorities. The Reporter has covered that situation over the years and done investigative stories on it. Interested in learning more?
