HUDSON COUNTY — With temperatures that could break 100 degrees this week, the city of Hoboken planned to open a cooling center at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St. from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the heatwave.
Other local cities were planning similar measures (watch hudsonreporter.com for updates).
According to a press release from a city spokesperson, residents are urged to check on their neighbors, especially the elderly and those with disabilities.
The release also lists heat related emergency safety tips, as provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and the state Office of Emergency Management. They included staying indoors, and, “If your home is not air conditioned, spend at least two hours daily at an air conditioned mall, library or other public place. Wear sunscreen outside, along with loose fitting light colored clothes that cover as much skin as possible. Drink water regularly even if you are not thirsty. Limit alcohol, and sugary drinks which speeds dehydration. Never leave children or pets alone in the car.” Stephen LaMarca
