Local graduations held in June

The school district will hold graduations for all the schools during the second to last week in June. The high school graduation is June 21 at 6:30 p.m. The middle school graduation is June 19 at 6:30 p.m. Both elementary school graduations take place on June 20. Clarendon’s begins at 4 p.m., and Huber Street starts at 6 p.m. All graduations are by invitation only. For more info, contact (201) 974-2000.

Turtle checks in to LaQuinta Inn to lay eggs

On none other than World Turtle Day, May 23, a turtle made its way to the LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Secaucus and checked in to lay its eggs. The turtle was discovered by LaQuinta staff members after it had dug a hole in their flowerbed. The staff called the Hackensack Riverkeeper for advice and fenced off the area around the eggs. The turtle laid eight eggs and then left. It could take up to three months for the eggs to hatch.

Rotary Club hosts Beefsteak Dinner

The Secaucus Rotary Club will host a Beefsteak Dinner on June 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the V.F.W. Hall. The event includes an all-you-can-eat traditional beefsteak menu, prizes, gift baskets, and sports memorabilia. Admission is $40 per person. Proceeds benefit the Secaucus Rotary Club programs that support Secaucus children, seniors, school scholarships, and others. View ‘Transit of Venus’ at NJMC Observatory

The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) invites the public for a free event to view the “Transit of Venus” at the William D. McDowell Observatory on June 5 at 5:30 p.m. The rare astronomical event occurs when Venus passes directly between the sun and earth. Observers will see a black dot move across the surface of the sun. The next Transit of Venus is not until 2017. Event is weather permitting. The Observatory is located at DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst. For more info, call (201) 460-8300.
