On Memorial Day Weekend, an alleged theft @ day

Friday: Police responded to a call of an alleged shoplifter at the CVS at Newark and Hudson streets at 6:15 a.m. May 25. Juan Vega, 37, Paterson, was arrested for allegedly shoplifting after being found on the bench in the Hoboken PATH Station. He was also charged with possession of prescription legend drugs.
Saturday: Police reports indicate a burglary occurred between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on May 26 at Seventh and Hudson streets. According to reports, the victim returned with his family at 6 p.m. to find that he was missing an Apple MacBook Pro Laptop valued at $3,000, an Apple iPod valued at $300, and prescription epilepsy medication, among other medications. Reports said that the burglar likely entered through the window and left by way of the apartment door.
Sunday: Reports said that an Apple iPad was allegedly stolen from the Starbucks at 314 Washington St. on May 27. The device was noticed to be missing at roughly 4:30 p.m. after the victim had allegedly left his backpack unattended to visit another store. Camera review has thus far been inconclusive.
Monday: A bike was allegedly stolen on Memorial Day, May 28, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Eighth and Madison streets. The white, speed-10 bike had evidently been locked on outer gate, reports said.

Alleged grocery scam goes awry

Police received a call Sunday, May 20 from the manager of the Shop Rite at 900 Madison St. claiming that two deliveries had been made without receipt of proper payment, police reports indicated. According to the reports, online orders had allegedly been filed and compensated for using an electronic pay service. The payment, however, was allegedly cancelled both times, resulting in the store’s loss of $1,216.
Reports said that the manager told police he believed another fraudulent delivery was about to take place that day. Police accompanied the delivery driver to the alleged site of the pickup, and attempted to place Alexias Carthens, 34, Jersey City, under arrest.
According to reports, Carthens allegedly pushed the officer twice, charged at him with his head down in an alleged attempt to escape, and allegedly attempted to punch the officer and missed. Carthens then allegedly jumped over a fence and was chased on foot.
Eventually, Carthens was able to enter his vehicle and allegedly drive away from the scene. Police looked up his license plate and found that Carthens had an active warrant out of Jersey City.
Carthens was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault on a uniformed police officer, resisting arrest, forgery, fraudulent use of a credit card, and wrongful impersonating and theft by deception, reports said. Carthens also received summons for reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.

St. Ann’s Church robbed

St. Ann’s Church, at 704 Jefferson St., was robbed of $63 dollars, police reports indicated.
According to reports, police responded to a call on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 a.m. of an alleged robbery. The pastor’s office had allegedly been entered by way of physical force after police observed damage along entire doorway border. Roughly $63 dollars were taken from an envelope on the pastor’s desk, although other items of significant value inside the office were not taken.
Reports said that police believe that the alleged robber had unlocked the door from inside the church prior to leaving. No arrests have been made.
