Hoboken Historical Museum releases upcoming events schedule

The Hoboken Historical Museum at 1301 Hudson St. has released their upcoming schedule of events.
On Sunday, June 3, the museum will host their annual Hoboken Secret Garden Tour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ten homeowners have invited tour-goers to visit their private gardens. Tickets are $25 the day of the tour, and can be purchased the museum.
Next Sunday, June 10, the museum will host Spring Family Fun Day from 12 to 4 p.m., with an afternoon of fun, history, and hands-on projects based on the current tunnel exhibition. Admission for the event is free.
On Wednesday, June 13, the museum will host the Spring Jazz Series beginning at 7 p.m. The event will feature trombonist Robert Edwards and vocalist Vanessa Perea performing American standards. Admission is $7 for guests and $5 for members, and includes light refreshments.

Family Fun Night kicks off with Ron Albanese

Family Fun Nights in Shipyard Park – at 13th St. and Constitution Way – will commence Tuesday, June 5 with entertainer and Hoboken resident Ron Albanese, or Polka Dot Pals.
The event will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket.

Weehawken resident will host book signing in Hoboken

Weehawken resident Theresa Borrelli will hold a speaking engagement and book signing Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at the Symposia Bookstore at 510 Washington St. in Hoboken.

National Association of Professional Women will host meeting

The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) will host a women’s “Connect, Learn, Grow and Inspire” networking brunch Saturday, June 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hoboken Business Center at 50 Harrison St., Suite 213.

Mile Square Theatre to host ‘Seventh Inning Stretch’

Tickets have gone on sale for “Seventh Inning Stretch,” a baseball production performed by Hoboken’s own Mile Square Theatre. This year marks the tenth time the troupe will put on the production. The play will feature seven shorts compiled from six accomplished playwrights, as well as a student writer.
The show, a “triple play gala,” will be held at the Monroe Theatre at 720 Monroe St. this June in honor of the first organized baseball game played in Hoboken on June 19, 1846. All earned revenue will fully go toward the troupe’s budget. The show will be held Friday, June 15, Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17th. Tickets are $25 for the Friday and Sunday shows, which will be held at 8 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
Tickets for the Saturday event are $50, and include a dinner featuring food from local restaurants. The event will begin at 7 p.m. with an 8 p.m. show time.

State issues report cards on public schools

The New Jersey Department of Education has issued its annual schools report cards for the 2010-2011 school year, which details the cost, test scores, and other indicators for all public schools in the state.
The web site lists the results for each district, each town and each school, and according to state officials this years report cards provide a more accurate assessment on school data, allowing parents and others to better see how the school is doing to similar schools elsewhere in the state.

State Fair Meadowlands returns this summer

State Fair Meadowlands, New Jersey’s largest annual family friendly event, is set to return for 17 days of “everything-under-the-sun” fun this summer, running from June 22 through July 8 at the Meadowlands Fairgrounds, next to the Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford. This year’s fair will feature free entertainment, rides, games and food for all ages. The fair includes the State Fair Kid Zone, an amusement area for children; the new Live Shark Experience show; and fireworks shows on July 3 and July 4.
State Fair Meadowlands is the largest fair in the New York metro area, with over 150 rides and attractions occupying over 35 acres of fairgrounds and parking. The fair will have rides for everyone, from tots to thrill-seeking daredevils, games, shows, live concerts and shopping. Also at the fair will be the original Batcopter, which will provide rides offering panoramic views of the fair and nearby New York City.

Fair hours are Monday through Thursday, 6 p.m. to midnight; Fridays from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Sundays from 2 p.m. to midnight. Special hours on July 3 are 4 pm. to 2 a.m., and on July 4, 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. On Friday, June 22, opening night, gates open at 4 p.m. This year, the fair is offering free parking Monday through Wednesday, and $4 all other days, including July 4.
