The 2nd Annual ‘Swing Fore the Schools’ golf outing is June 1

HOBOKEN – You can make a difference in local education by sponsoring the 2nd Annual “Swing Fore the Schools” Golf Outing, a one-of-a-kind event, to be held at Crystal Springs Resort in Hardyston, on Friday, June 1. Parents from six local schools have come together to create “Swing For the Schools,” a joint charity golf outing for the benefit of Elysian Charter School, Hoboken Charter School, Hoboken Dual Language Charter School (HoLa), Mustard Seed School, All Saints Episcopal Day School and Stevens Cooperative School.
By joining together for one golf fundraiser, these schools hope to maximize community involvement by holding a unique annual event. Last year’s inaugural event raised over $40,000. The 2nd annual outing will take place again at the Crystal Springs Resort on the Wild Turkey and Crystal Springs golf courses, both rated among the best in the U.S. For more information, or to register online go to: www.swingforetheschools.com

Art exhibit opening reception is Friday

JERSEY CITY – SILVERMAN and The Majestic Condominium Association present artist Roger Sayre’s “Little Ticks of Time.” The opening reception is Friday, June 1, 7–9 p.m. at The Majestic Theatre Condominiums, 222 Montgomery St., Jersey City. Office of Naval Research showcases futuristic technologies at Fleet Week New York

HOBOKEN AND JERSEY CITY – The Office of Naval Research (ONR) is bringing some of its most innovative technology and hands-on science activities to the city that never sleeps during Fleet Week New York May 23-30, a free event open to the public. “This is a great opportunity to connect with others across the maritime family and with New Yorkers to show how ONR’s work is improving their armed forces’ capabilities and national security,” said Chief of Naval Research Rear Adm. Matthew Klunder. “We thank New York for showing its appreciation to those who serve and honoring the heroes who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.”
ONR will have exhibits on Piers 86 and 92. At Pier 92, ONR is featuring some of its cutting-edge technologies. Making its first Fleet Week appearance is the new F/A-18E/F Super Hornet flight simulator. Visitors can try piloting virtual F/A-18’s featuring newly developed flight control software that aids landing aboard aircraft carriers.

The Theater Company schedules two auditions

HOBOKEN – The Theater Company of Hoboken (TTC) will hold open auditions on May 29 and 30 from 6-9 p.m. at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin A. Stevens Hall, 24 Fifth St., Hoboken (campus of Stevens Institute of Technology) for their summer production of “The Pirates of Penzance.” TTC seeks a diverse cast, ages 14 and up, for this comic Gilbert and Sullivan operetta.
