HOBOKEN — The city will hold community meetings in regards to the planned redesigns of Observer Highway and a section of Newark St.
The meetings will take place Wednesday, May 30 in the basement conference room of City Hall at 94 Washington St.
The Observer Highway meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Newark Street redesign meeting will follow immediately after until 8 p.m.
The city has $2 million in federal funding to improve Observer Highway and $240,000 in federal funding for Newark St. between River and Washington Streets. Funding for both projects was secured by U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, a city spokesperson said.
Last month, officials announced their intention to create a green “band,” or “loop” around the city. According to officials, the “band” would connect the green bike lanes and pedestrian walkways around the perimeter of the entire city, similar to facilities currently present on Sinatra Drive.
A Class One bike lane and pedestrian walkway will also be implemented on the road. In turn, the street will become “Observer Boulevard.”
The City previously held public meetings on Summer 2010 and Spring 2011 to discuss the redesign of the streets. -Stephen LaMarca
