To the Editor:
On behalf of Donate Life Bayonne, a volunteer group for N.J. Sharing Network, we proudly commend and express our sincere gratitude to the City of Bayonne with our Honorable Mayor Mark Smith, Councilman Ray Greaves, Public Works Director Gary Chmielewski, Director of Public Affairs Joe Ryan, and the Bayonne Public Library and Sneh Bains for their support.
Mayor Smith and Councilman Greaves celebrated Proclamation Day on April 24, recognizing April as National Donor Month, with donor families and organ recipients. Public Affairs Director Joe Ryan assisted with the planning and post-publicity of Proclamation Day. Thank you to the Bayonne Public Library, Sneh Bains and Elaine Richart for permission to display a timeline on U.S. organ and tissue donation. All of these efforts help save more lives through organ and tissue donation.
Hudson County ranks second to last in the state for registering organ and tissue donors. People on the waiting list are not dying from an incurable disease. They are dying because not enough people say yes to organ and tissue donation.
Thank you to the City of Bayonne for their aid in promoting organ and tissue donation. We look forward to the possible opportunity of joining a workplace partnership to save more lives.
