JERSEY CITY – On Thursday, May 17 the City of Jersey City and Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy will host a job fair for apprenticeships in the construction trades. The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will take place at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, at 140 Martin Luther King Drive.
Job seekers will be able to apply for apprenticeship opportunities in the following trades: bricklaying, carpentry, electrical work, HVAC, operating engineering, cement masonry, plumbing, tile setting, and painting.
“In these tough economic times, it is crucial that people have the opportunity for gainful employment,” Healy said. “Through the Project Labor Agreement we enacted, developers of $25 million projects or larger who receive a tax abatement are required to hire union labor and offer apprenticeship opportunities for Jersey City residents. Further, the city has set a policy that all city projects will be built with union labor and will offer apprenticeships to Jersey City residents.”
To apply for an apprenticeship, applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and must be at least 18 years old.
