Arrest made in alleged theft of police vehicle
A police vehicle was allegedly stolen during four large consecutive fights last Saturday, May 5 at 3 a.m., according to police reports.
Police said that Jersey City resident Jamerson Ladson, 30, was arrested for the theft of the vehicle. Ladson allegedly walked into the Hoboken Police station Wednesday night and said, “I heard you were looking for me.”
Police had initially responded to a large fight consisting of 80 to 100 people at 300 Marshall Dr. The fight was believed to be part of an ongoing dispute between two families who live in the Hoboken Housing Authority, according to the police.
According to reports, police requested backup and after roughly 20 minutes, the crowd began to disperse. Shortly after, however, police responded to calls about two subsequent fights, at 400 Harrison St. followed by another at 300 Jackson St. While calming the fights, the police vehicle, radio car 104, was allegedly stolen from the 300 Marshall Dr. area. No arrests were made at the fights due to the police being outnumbered and an alleged unwillingness of those involved to sign complaints.
Reports said that the vehicle later was found abandoned after allegedly striking a cab driver in the area of 18th Street and Jersey Avenue in Jersey City. The taxi driver was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment. While on the scene, police were called to yet another large fight in progress at 320 Marshall Dr. The parties were disbursed.
Beware of fraudulent listings
Police reports indicated an apartment scam reported Wednesday, May 2 at 9 a.m. by a Hoboken couple seeking an apartment in California.
According to reports, the Hoboken resident and her husband responded to an online advertisement with the purpose of obtaining an apartment in San Francisco. The listing was allegedly located at 1483 Sutter St., Unit 1706. Contact information on the advertisement included a person by the name of “Lutton Ernest.”
After the resident and her husband allegedly electronically wired $5,200 dollars from their checking account to another bank account to secure the apartment, they were unable to contact “Ernest.” The resident put a freeze on the wire transfer and checking account, and alerted the police. The resident also said that she later found that the listed building allegedly did not exist in California, according to reports.
Take the next cab
A Hoboken cab driver was allegedly assaulted by a man through his open window after the driver turned down his fare last Sunday, May 6 at 12 a.m., police reports said. The cab driver already had a fare in progress.
As the driver was passing the man slowly, the man allegedly punched the driver in the face with two closed fists. The driver then sped away, but returned back to the area quickly. The man, who is described as “heavyset,” 6 feet tall, and with short, dark, hair, had fled in an unknown direction, reports said. No arrests were made.
Woman reports Saturday night assault
Police were alerted to an alleged incident occurring at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, May 6 at an address in the 500 block of Adams Street, police reports said.
According to police reports, an unknown man allegedly reached under a woman’s dress and grabbed her buttocks as she was standing near the buzzer of her apartment building. The man was described as 5-foot-10 and roughly 45-years-old.
