Four Hudson County high schools rank top 50 in U.S. News N.J. Best High School list
U.S. News recently revealed its top Best High Schools lists, and four Hudson County schools selected are in New Jersey’s top 50. Of 21,776 U.S. high schools, 82 New Jersey schools made the national list. Twenty-eight state schools were awarded gold medals, 23 received silver medals, and 31 received bronze. On that list is North Bergen’s High Tech High that was placed 30th in the state and 508th in the nation. The website reports that New Jersey has a total of 389 high schools, 294 school districts, 30,807 full-time teachers, and 421,215 enrolled students.
Community Fair is being held in West New York
The Dvine Konektion Community Development Corporation is hosting a Community Fair on Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 5516 Jefferson Street in West New York. Residents from West New York, North Bergen, Union City, Weehawken and Guttenberg are welcome to attend. During the fair the following services will be provided: a food pantry, where bags of groceries will be distributed to families in need; a baby pantry, where items such as diapers, wipes and formula will be provided; free diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings; free diabetes testing supplies; free cell phones and minutes (for those that qualify); a free hot lunch and coffee provided by local area restaurants, and Medicare information. There will also be representatives from the Community Food Bank of NJ’s Food Stamp Outreach division. Their goal will be to answer questions and help pre-qualify families for food stamp benefits.

Hudson Chamber partners with United Way in benefit event
The Hudson County Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Hudson County are collaborating to present “We Are Hudson – The Live Benefit” which will take place on Monday, May 14, at the Roxiticus Golf Club in Mendham beginning at 10 a.m. Two leaders will be honored for capturing the spirit of Mary T. Norton, New Jersey’s first Congresswoman. They are: Joanne Bruno, vice president for Academic Affairs at New Jersey City University and Jean Quinn, vice president of Public Relations at The Provident Bank. Both honorees will be recognized for making outstanding contributions that led to the success of United Way programs in Hudson County. “The Chamber believes that a strong non-profit community is imperative to making the country a great place to do business,” said Maria Nieves, the Chamber’s president and CEO. “We’re pleased to join efforts with the United Way and support their mission to provide critical resources to the underserved in our community.”
