HOBOKEN — To protest the amount of potholes in the city, resident Alfred Cusumano will be parking his minivan near City Hall all week to increase awareness about the issue.
Cusumano, who refers to Hoboken as “the pothole capital of New Jersey,” told The Hoboken Reporter that the city’s potholes recently cost him $450 after he suffered damage to an axle and a motor mount.
“I’m fed up,” said Cusumano. “[The potholes] deter people from buying cars. They damaged the [parts] out of cars driving through this place.”
“It’s ridiculous,” added Cusumano. “I’ve got to try and get something done.”
In a related development, the City Council adopted an ordinance last night to establish a deposit for the opening of new roads. If the roads need repairs following an inspection, the city will draw the costs from the deposit. Town officials hope the new ordinance will deter future potholes from forming. –Stephen LaMarca
