JERSEY CITY – A downtown parents group is offering rides to Jersey City voters who may show up at the wrong polling stations for today’s Board of Education election.
As previously reported, several downtown residents who were recently redistricted from Ward E to Ward F discovered last week that they have been reassigned to new polling stations that are far from their homes. In a number of cases, these reassignments were done in error, according to letters that were sent to residents over the weekend by the Hudson County Board of Elections.
In an effort to address the problem, the Hudson County Board of Elections is offering to let people go to their old polling sites and vote using provisional ballots. Some voters, however, may want to vote at their new voting site – even though the new site is farther away from their homes.
To help voters get to their new polling location, the downtown-based Jersey City Moms group is offering to give people rides from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. To arrange a ride to a new polling station, residents can send an e-mail to candice.osborne@gmail.com or call (201) 936-4176. This shuttle service is available only for downtown residents who have been affected by redistricting and polling site reassignments.
Downtown City Councilman Steven Fulop is also offering to help reassigned voters get to their new polling location, if they do not wish to vote using a provisional ballot. Fulop has told voters they can contact him at info@stevenfulop.com if they have any problems voting and need to be driven to another polling location.
The Board of Education election will take place today (Tues., April 17).
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m.
