North Bergen municipal prosecutor arrested in “large scale” marijuana distribution scheme

NORTH BERGEN – A North Bergen municipal prosecutor was arrested last weekend for his alleged role in a “large scale” marijuana distribution scheme, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has announced.
According to John L. Molinelli of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, six individuals were arrested following a two-month investigation.
The North Bergen prosecutor, Marcanton Macri, 44, was arrested on charges that he allegedly facilitated a relationship between two marijuana distributors and a local assistant bank manager. The assistant bank manager would allegedly exchange the distributors’ lower denominations of United States currency for one-hundred dollar bills.
Town Spokesman Phil Swibinski said that Macri, who was hired over 11 years ago, was suspended without pay immediately.
Macri was arrested late Friday night by authorities. He was one of two town prosecutors, Swibinski said.
“North Bergen had no knowledge of any of Mr. Macri’s alleged activities,” said Swibinski.
