3rd Sundays is Hoboken’s monthly gallery walk

A new monthly art event, “3rd Sundays: Hoboken’s Monthly Gallery Walk,” will kick off Sunday, April 15, with a tour of 10 galleries and art spaces around the Mile Square City, all within walking distance.
The event, similar to the annual fall art studio tour that draws thousands of art lovers for a whole weekend to the city, is meant to feature the places where art is displayed and marketed in Hoboken.
Every third Sunday, sponsored by the city, the event will include special events and receptions from 2 to 6 p.m., focusing on the work of local, regional and international artists.
You can walk on your own schedule, or participate in a free guided tour featuring galleries on the east side in April and west-side galleries in May.
The tour kicks off from Lana Santorelli Gallery, 628 Washington St., at 2 p.m. on April 15 and again on May 20.
To take the guided tour, RSVP to info@lanasantorelli.com by 12 p.m. on Friday prior to the tour you’re interested in.

Former executives of Hoboken company sentenced to federal prison

The two former executives from Hoboken-based payroll services company First Priority Pay have been sentenced to prison for defrauding the company’s clients of $1 million and failing to pay $400,000 in taxes, according to NJ.com.
U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman has announced that former FPP vice president of operations, Jose Figueroa, 38, of Northampton County, Pa., was sentenced to 41 months in prison and the former director of sales, Carlos Chorro, 36, also of Northampton, was sentenced to 12 months in prison, according to federal officials. They said Figueroa and Chorro manipulated the company’s computer system to divert clients’ payroll tax funds to bank accounts and to debit cards the two men controlled.
Both men pleaded guilty in October 2011 to one count each of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count each of subscribing to false tax returns in Newark Federal Court. As part of their guilty pleas, Figueroa has agreed to pay restitution of $469,737 to victims, $278,133 to the IRS, and forfeit $438,000 while Chorro was ordered to pay restitution of $373,125 and forfeit $184,000, officials said. Judge Susan D. Wigenton also sentenced Figueroa and Chorro to three years each of supervised release.

Green Team invites vendors to participate

The City of Hoboken will host a Green Fair on Saturday April 21, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Pier A Park along the Hoboken waterfront. The fair is being organized by the City of Hoboken Green Team, which is composed of members of the city administration and the community.
The Green Fair is intended to introduce sustainable lifestyle choices to the community, raise awareness regarding environmental concerns, and demonstrate how consumers can reduce their impact on the earth by selecting sustainable, eco-friendly products and services, reducing energy consumption, conserving water and limiting their dependence on fossil fuels.
The fair will feature live music and organic food vendors.
The Green Team is currently soliciting vendors who are “green businesses” or non-profits whose mission aligns with environmental sustainability. The Green Team is also reaching out to involve the local arts community. Interested vendors can submit the online registration form at www.hobokennj.org/greenfair. Potential vendors can contact Christopher Brown at cbrown@hobokennj.org with any questions.
