WEEHAWKEN – Three new Weehawken Board of Education members will be voted in during next week’s elections along with the district’s $23.6 million dollar proposed budget. The nine members of the board serve three-year terms on a rotating basis, depending on when they were elected.
Of the five candidates running, two are incumbent, including the board’s president Richard Barsa and 27-year board veteran Joseph Rutigliano. The new candidates are Gabrielle Jonas, Ildefonso Acosta, and Greg Moran.
The election is run by the County Board of Elections, which handles the candidates’ petitions and the residents’ ballots. Once the new members are elected, the role of board president and vice president are determined during a reorganization meeting which will be held on April 26. During this meeting, the board members nominate and vote for who they believe best fits these two positions.
Elections will take place on Tuesday, April 17, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. To find out where to vote, visit http://www.hudsoncountyclerk.org/elections and click on “Find your ward and district” on the left side of the web page.
