21-year-old killed in Jersey City apt. bldg. with more than one weapon
JERSEY CITY – A Jersey City man was shot and killed in the lobby of an apartment on Ocean Avenue Saturday morning, according to published reports. The man, who reportedly lived on Myrtle Avenue, was walking past the building at around 2:30 a.m. when he was approached by someone with whom he had a brief conversation. The man, 21, was shot and killed moments later in the lobby of 595 Ocean Ave.
The victim was shot with more than one weapon, according to reports.
At present, there is no motive for the murder and no suspects have been identified.
The Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor is asking for help from the public. Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call (201) 915-1345.
Jersey City and Union City school investigated for cheating
HUDSON COUNTY — More than 20 New Jersey schools have been investigated for possibly cheating on state tests (the NJ ASK exams) — and while 14 were cleared last week, nine have not yet been cleared, the Star-Ledger reported on Saturday.
Two of the schools on the “not been cleared” list are in Hudson County.
The article says that the kids’ answers on the test seemed to be erased and changed at a higher rate than normal.
A letter from Acting Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf sent to districts on Friday said, in part, “Nine other schools where wrong answers were changed to right at unusually high rates in at least one grade, however, have been flagged for further investigation by the state Office of Fiscal Accountability, the letter states.”
The list of schools still under investigation includes two in Hudson County – Jersey City community Charter School, for grade 3, and Washington School in Union City, also for grade 3.
However, the list also has an asterisk that says that the Union City school was initially investigated by its own school district and will not be investigated further by the state. So it is neither cleared nor being actively investigated.

New project to expand social, intellectual life in Hudson County
HOBOKEN – On March 29 at Symposia Bookstore in Hoboken, educator John Bredin will launch his “Evolved Urbanite” project in Hudson County.
The idea is to create a space for social interaction that’s enriched by mini lectures from artists, writers, and thinkers. Bredin refers to it as an “informal university in the public space,” part of what he hopes will be a growing movement to get off Facebook and rediscover the joy of face to face conversations. It’s also a nice way to build community and meet your neighbors.
