‘The Greatest Love of All’

To the Editor:
It seems as if Whitney Houston sang about all of the different stages and times in her life. Aside from the fact that she had one of the most powerful, beautiful, and expressive voices in the world, she never lost sight of her wanting to communicate with her audience and have them understand and appreciate the songs she sang. In an age where so many singers don’t even remember the lyrics to the “National Anthem,” when Whitney sang it, she made sure that we should all be, as a nation, as a people, proud to be Americans.
Another wonderful aspect of Whitney’s songs was that she cared about the message they conveyed. Whatever subject she chose to sing about, with Whitney there was, like all great artists, an element of truth in her work.
Whitney didn’t lie – many of her best songs had the word “believe” in them. She believed in life and so did we – only she led the way. If only “in one moment in time” she could have listened to the lyrics of her song: “No matter what they take from me, they can’t take away my dignity.”
Whitney, you had the greatest love of all, and we will always love you.
