SECAUCUS — Only four candidates will run for three available seats for a three-year term in the Secaucus school district election this April, according to school officials.
The candidates include incumbents Thomas Troyer and Gary Riebesell, former Secaucus Education Association (SEA) union president Robert Anderson, and Clarendon Elementary PTA president and parent Kelly D’Adetta.
The election will be held April 17.
The filing deadline was Monday and candidates have until March 5 to withdraw. The Secaucus school board has a total of nine seats.
Campaigning for the school board election officially began after local union president Bob Anderson announced his candidacy at the Jan. 19 board meeting.
Anderson said in an interview that he is running to “get the ship back on course.” He presented the board with a vote of no confidence in the leadership of uperintendent of Schools Cynthia Randina at the Jan. 19 meeting and provided a list of 26 items with cause for the action. He doesn’t want the board to renew her contract.
Tom Troyer announced his candidacy for the board shortly after Anderson did.
Troyer said, “I choose to support Superintendent Randina and I plan to detail why I am supporting her.”
