Hudson School presents ‘Sweeney Todd’

Attend the tale of a barber, who, having escaped from a prison colony in Australia, has returned to London to reclaim his life and family and to exact revenge on the men who ruined his life. In partnership with a morally-questionable pie maker, the couple wreaks havoc on both the guilty and the innocent inhabitants of Fleet Street.
In “Sweeney Todd,” one of Stephen Sondheim’s most challenging and provocative musicals, a cast of 18 takes us along on a macabre and exciting tale of love, revenge, madness and terror.
Woodrow Proctor from Hoboken plays the title role, and Pooja Desai from Secaucus plays his accomplice, Mrs. Lovett.
Directed and designed by Adam Sentoni, the cast includes, from Hoboken: Sierra Shade Holland Waxman as “Johanna,” and Robert Stark as “Adolfo Pirelli.” From Bloomfield, Noah Keyishian plays “Tobias Ragg.” From Montclair, Peter Egan plays the villainous “Judge Turpin;” Ryan Parker plays “Anthony Hope;” and Carrie Lane Pearlman, the “Beggar Woman.”
William Stryker from West Orange plays “Beadle Bamford.” The ensemble includes, Jonas Johnsen from Brooklyn; Lily Johnson from West Orange; Kai Jordan from Jersey City; RJ Konefal, Samantha Mullarney, Samantha Stein from Montclair; Jake Ohring from Hoboken; Erica Rivera from Woodbridge; and Olivia Roche from Bloomfield.
The original 1979 Broadway production directed by Harold Prince and starring Angela Lansbury, Len Cariou and Victor Garber won eight Tony Awards including Best Actress and Actor, Best Direction, Best Score, Best Book, and Best Musical.
“Sweeney Todd” will be presented at The Hudson School Performance Space, 601 Park Ave., Hoboken. Performance schedule includes four evening performances Fridays and Saturdays, March 23, 24, 30, and 31 at 7:30 p.m., and three matinees, Saturdays, March 24 and 31, and Sunday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
