Hoboken Children’s Theatre announces winter performances

Hoboken Children’s Theater, headed by award-winning director Chase Leyner and local musical headliner Jeremy Beck, presents its winter season with “Changing Minds,” a new musical performed by HCT’s Junior Company, and “Brenda Bly: Teen Detective,” performed by the highly regarded Hoboken Children’s Theater Company.
Both shows are rated PG and are fun for the whole family. The Junior Company is one of the first groups to produce “Changing Minds.”
The Hoboken Children’s Theater Company produces professional level musicals with teens from all around Hudson County. In this production of “Brenda Bly,” Hoboken, Weehawken, Bayonne and Jersey City are represented.
In “Changing Minds,” at Playa Sola Middle School, it is business as usual as the jocks, geeks and popular kids all try to navigate a world of insecurities, grades, fashions and text messages. Then, during a school trip to a historic mission, the minds of two students are switched. A screwball musical comedy with a bright pop score that is sure to keep you laughing as the kids of Playa Sola discover that sometimes the best way to figure out who you are is by…changing minds!
Performances are Friday Mar. 2, 7 p.m.; Saturday Mar. 3, 2 and 7 p.m.; Sunday Mar. 4, 2 p.m.
Tickets are $12. All performances are at the Monroe Theatrespace, 720 Monroe St., 2nd floor, Hoboken.
The setting for “Brenda Bly: Teen Detective” is 1958, a time of rock ‘n roll, space discovery, and great hope for a bright future. But trouble is brewing at the Whitney Ellis Private School for Girls. Only days away from the opening night of the school musical, “Rocket Girl,” the leading lady is knocked unconscious with a sandbag. It is up to our favorite teenage sleuth, Brenda Bly, to solve the crime, catch the crook and save the day.
Great music, comic performances and HCTC’s trademark harmonies will have you coming back again and again!
Performances are Thursday Mar. 15, 7 p.m.; Friday Mar. 16, 7 p.m.; Saturday Mar. 17, 7 p.m.; and Sunday Mar. 18, 1 p.m. & 5 p.m.
Tickets cost $15, and all performances are at the Monroe Theatrespace.
