SECAUCUS — The Secaucus school board Thursday voted unanimously to keep its annual election in April and will not move it to November. This comes after a new state law allowed each district to make the decision.
Holding the elections in November may have increased voter turnout (typically only 12 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Secaucus), but all school board members wanted to keep the election in April.
Gov. Christopher Christie signed legislation into law on Jan. 17.
Other Hudson County municipalities are deliberating the timing of their own school election. The change can happen either by a school board resolution, a council resolution, or by asking for voter’ approval via referendum.
