Councilman Fulop unhappy with Jersey City’s ‘Jersey Shore’ permit

JERSEY CITY AND BEYOND – Last week, when Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer denied MTV a city permit to film a “Jersey Shore” spin-off starring Nicole “Snooki”
Polizzi and Jennifer “JWoww” Farley, representatives from several other nearby towns issued statements of support. Zimmer later commented she was
surprised that Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy hadn’t issued his own statement, since the show was considering filming there too. Now we know why.
Jersey City has granted a permit for MTV to film the less than dynamic duo at a firehouse on Grove Street near Mercer.
While Healy believes that any publicity is good publicity, not everyone agrees. In a statement issued this morning, Ward E City Councilman Steven Fulop, who
represents the downtown area where the Grove and Mercer firehouse is based, said, “I’m not happy about the administration’s decision to approve the
permits. There is a reason Hoboken rejected it. No matter what they pay to film here, we should have pride in the city and the goal as leaders to
convey to the country that Jersey City is a great place to raise a family or move a business. This decision will have an image that is the opposite.”
