WEST NEW YORK —There were two separate incidents of resident being assaulted by a group of juveniles in West New York on Jan. 28. The first occurred at around 11:15 p.m. on 61st Street and Harrison Avenue when a 47-year-old man was allegedly hit in the face by a juvenile in the group, and then allegedly assaulted by other members of the group. According to a media release, the man ran off and jumped into a taxi, which brought him to police headquarters so he could report the incident.
Then, at approximately 11:40 p.m., another man was allegedly robbed and assaulted by a group of 10 juveniles at 65th Street and Hudson Avenue. The victim was sitting down when the teenagers allegedly approached him and demanded money.
When he refused, they allegedly attacked him and one of the juveniles allegedly went through his pockets for money. A male friend of the victim saw the assault and came to his aid. One of the youths allegedly struck the friend who proceeded to defend himself, and the group reportedly ran off.
Both victims were transported to the Palisades Medical Center by the WNY Emergency Medical Squad and treated for minor injuries sustained from being punched in the nose.
“We think they were the same group of teens because both incidents occurred in a similar area,” WNY Police Captain Mike Zitt said. He also reported that the victims were brought back to the area of the incidents to identify the perpetrators, but neither could identify them.
No one was arrested.
