GUTTENBERG — A two-alarm fire was reported at 6911 Madison St. in Guttenberg at 5:11 a.m. Saturday. According to Deputy Chief Charles Thomas of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, the fire appeared to be in the back of the first floor, with flames coming out of the rear windows.
According to Thomas, the house was constructed with balloon framing, which allowed the fire to easily extend up the walls. The building also suffered a substantial amount of smoke and water damage. Firefighters remained at the scene until 1 p.m. Deputy Chief Nick Gazzillo was the the incident commander.
The Red Cross was called to relocate the occupants. Two firefighters were also treated for injuries, and have since been released. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated, according to Thomas. – Stephen LaMarca
