Hoboken Catholic Academy receives accreditation

Hoboken Catholic Academy recently was accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools’ Commission on Elementary Schools, according to the school website.
The 30-month process was governed by a Steering Committee, chaired by Rose Perry, the principal of Hoboken Catholic Academy. The accreditation means that the school has met the Middle School States Standards for a quality school.

Southwest redevelopment hearing postponed due to abundance of interest

It’s been six years since the entire southwest redevelopment process started, so what’s another few weeks?
The Hoboken Planning Board had to cancel the scheduled hearing on the southwest redevelopment plan on Thursday night after too many property owners and other interested parties attended the first scheduled hearing since the redevelopment study was released. The number of people exceeded what the fire code allows for the City Hall conference room in the basement.
A preview of the meeting appeared on the cover of the Jan. 29 edition of The Hoboken Reporter.
The next hearing will likely be held later this month.

Pick what should play at ‘Movies Under the Stars’

Although there is still a chill in the air with months to go before summer, Hoboken is beginning to plan for the return of the popular program, “Movies Under the Stars.”
Every summer, residents and visitors flock to Pier A Park in downtown Hoboken to watch new movies on a large projected screen along the Hudson River, with the picturesque Manhattan skyline serving as a unique backdrop. Admission to the movies is free, and the program takes place on Wednesdays in June, July, and August.
This year, films like “50/50,” “J. Edgar,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Toy Story 3,” “Bridesmaids,” and much more are being considered for Movies Under the Stars.

Former Gov. Jon Corzine puts home on the market

Beleaguered former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine appears to have put his pricey Hoboken waterfront home on the market for $2.9 million.
A CNBC anchor broke the story on Monday night, followed by a Hoboken news website that noted that the photos are the same as those that appeared two years ago in a local newspaper article about Corzine and his home at Maxwell Place.
Corzine has been blamed for the downfall of MF Global, a financial firm for which he served as CEO after leaving office.

Hudson County freeholders say Giants, Red Bulls should change their name from New York to New Jersey

The appearance of the New York Giants in this year’s Super Bowl had the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders up in arms at the Jan. 26 meeting over the fact that the Giants’ and Jets’ football teams reside in New Jersey, and the Red Bulls soccer team is located in Hudson County – yet, all three teams still use New York as part of their name.
Freeholder Bill O’Dea has proposed contacting freeholder boards and other governmental entities from around the state in making a united push for a name change so that New Jersey is part of these teams’ names.
“Hudson County taxpayers funded the building of the Red Bull stadium parking lot,” O’Dea noted. The stadium is located in Harrison.
New Jersey Giants Quarterback Eli Manning lives on the Hoboken waterfront with his family.
