Hudson County freeholders say Giants, Red Bulls should change their name from New York to New Jersey

HUDSON COUNTY — The appearance of the New York Giants in this year’s Super Bowl had the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders up in arms at the Jan. 26 meeting over the fact that the Giants’ and Jets’ football teams reside in New Jersey, and the Red Bulls soccer team is located in Hudson County – yet, all three teams still use New York as part of their name.

Freeholder Bill O’Dea has proposed contacting freeholder boards and other governmental entities from around the state in making a united push for a name change so that New Jersey is part of these teams’ names.

“Hudson County taxpayers funded the building of the Red Bull stadium parking lot,” O’Dea noted. The stadium is located in Harrison.

New Jersey Giants Quarterback Eli Manning lives on the Hoboken waterfront with his family.
