A funeral service took place Jan. 25 for Mirtelina “Mirta” Alsina. She passed away Jan. 22. Mirtelina was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and immigrated to Jersey City in 1954 where she spent most of her life, raising her family. Mirta worked for St. John’s School and St. Dominic Academy, both in Jersey City, for many years. Mirtelina was the wife of 48 years to Ismael Alsina; mother of Victor Alsina and wife Liliana, Ismael Alsina and wife Mary Jean; Mirta Skerrett and husband Ivens; grandmother of Gabriel and Daniel Alsina; sister of Minerva, Carmen, Kitty, Rosa, Willie, Joe and Manny; and also survived by many other relatives and friends.
