Hearings held on extending light rail to Bergen County this week

HUDSON COUNTY – Hearings were to be held today (Tuesday) and Thursday in which the public can give feedback to New Jersey Transit officials over a proposed extension of the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail into Bergen County.
Tuesday’s meetings take place from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clinton Inn at 145 Dean Drive in Tenafly. Thursday’s meeting will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Englewood Hotel at 401 S. Van Brunt Street in Englewood.
The project could cost over $800 million.
The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail began operating in 2000 and connects Bayonne with Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Union City, and North Bergen.
According to NorthJersey.com, NJ Transit officials are considering two options. The first potential plan would be to extend the light rail system eight miles north of North Bergen to a new station in Englewood, including stops in Ridgefield, Palisades Park, and Leonia. The second potential option would be to extend the system twelve miles, with two additional stops in Tenafly.
