WEST NEW YORK – The West New York Parking Authority wants to remind residents that it approved a new resident parking ordinance last September to ensure that town inhabitants have first dibs on parking.
The town has had resident-specific parking since 1996 in one small section of town, and permits were free, but over the years, they’ve expanded the area, according to Parking Authority Director Howard Schroeder.
“West New York is bordered by four towns who don’t have parking lots, so they’re taking up all of our residents’ spaces,” he said. The town has put out flyers and posted the parking restrictions in papers in the past, but since people move into the area quite frequently, he said, they may not be aware that a permit is needed.
The entire resident parking area covers 67th on the Guttenberg border, extends to Kennedy Boulevard, then goes down to 51st Street on Boulevard East and up to Bergenline Avenue.
“We plan to expand the zone later on,” Schroeder said.
There are two main zones he wishes to bring to residents’ attention. The first is on Boulevard East and Park Avenue between 50th and 60th Street. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon, only those with resident stickers may park there.
The second zone, which was established in September, runs from 67th and Park Avenue to 60th Street, and no one may park without a sticker between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Residents may purchase parking permits at 224 60th St., or call (201) 295-1575. A two-year-pass costs $15. Visitor passes are available for purchase from a machine outside the office at all times. They cost $3 per day, and $30 per month.
