Civil Service is our protection

Dear Editor:
Civil Service was created to prevent a great deal of fraud, in reference to elections and to see that citizens are serviced appropriately. Mayor Zimmer and, perhaps Christy want to get rid of this service. Yea, just think of the political pull you would have, promising jobs to helpers, constituents, their nieces, nephews and a few otherwise unemployable people. Then, the people of Hoboken would be too busy to be political, trying to get their drivers license back, that was removed inappropriately, due to a ticket that was not received, or businesses could just close up, due to computer glitches.
The city could be rampant with fist fighting supervisors, supervisors for supervisors, rubber stamped construction permits and….yep, think fraud, graft and every old fashioned Tammany hall nightmare you ever read about. Civil Service protects us from that. If there are some glitches in the system, or if select individuals are abusing this system, let’s fix it. (openly, without gag orders).
Many civil servants give up better paying jobs to work with benefits and security. We need to remember how important this base to our community is…these people and, yes, even these lawsuits. Let your imagination drift. What could an out of control politician do to your quality of life, the small things that matter.
