‘Bayonne is a great city’

To the Editor:
Living in our great city, I know why, as my mother suffered a medical attack during the eve. Emergency 911 was called. Thanks so much to our very able communications center along with Bayonne Police Department, Bayonne Fire Department, McCabe’s best EMTs, and Drs. Jack Smith and Choudhry. No wonder people move out of Bayonne and then return – because of our elite city services. They are second to none!
At the emergency room, my mother received excellent care from nurses Gerri, Maggie and Charlotte; second floor telemetry by Corine, Suzie and Barbara; and third floor, Maria and Desal. Again, I say excellent! During the extended stay, I met many people who have needs and more questions than answers (surprise! – money is not the only need). I saw my mother’s actual fear in her face. She was never in the hospital at almost 90 (except for maternity).
Examples of help or need I had heard were tree trims in front of patients’ residences, which cities normally do at no charge, and other assistance that the county, BEOF, IKEA (who provides a credit for furniture to fire victims) Our Lady of Assumption soup kitchen or Serenity services can provide. It seems that people only know to get help two times a year, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I personally have helped many people being a member of over 12 Bayonne clubs, other countyside clubs, and Auxiliary Police for over 26 years. If you wish to join the Knights of Columbus, Dante Alighieri and Circola Italiano, thanks to our newly elected vice president, the membership drive is in progress. I can be reached at (201) 779-6797. I have signed up 10 members with the ideal of making our great city even greater.
Gotta go, my phone is ringing – it’s another new member.
