HCA disbands

Dear Editor:
After almost ten years of working to improve the quality of life in Hoboken and Jersey City, the Hudson County Alliance, Inc. (HCA) recently made a decision to disband. HCA was formed in June 2002 by concerned citizens in Hoboken and Jersey City to contest the development of 101 Marshall Street in Hoboken (now the SkyClub). Although that fight was lost, the group endured, continuing to address zoning and quality of life issues that impacted residents in both municipalities. Our efforts were inspired by the tenacity and brilliance of Annette Illing, a founding member of HCA and long-time Hoboken activist who passed away in 2008, and the continuing dedication of HCA volunteers Vito Brunetti, Cheryl Fallick, Helen Hirsch, Becky Hoffman, Tom Illing, Ira Landgarten, Alice Misiewicz-Dowd, Mary Ondrejka, Dan Tumpson, Eric Volpe and others.
In disbanding, HCA will contribute its remaining assets (totaling over $8,000) among ten vital non-profit organizations that remain active in bettering our community. These organizations are: Art House Productions, Inc., Friends of Liberty State Park, Inc., Friends of the Loews, Inc., Fund for a Better Waterfront, Inc., Harsimus Stem Embankment Coalition, The Hoboken Shelter, Jersey City Parks Coalition, NJ Appleseed Public Interest Law Center, Riverview Neighborhood Association, Washington Park Association of Hudson County We believe that these organizations are worthy of Annette’s memory and HCA’s legacy. We wish them continued success and we encourage you to join us in supporting them. Thank you for your support of HCA over the last decade.
Sincerely,
Hudson County Alliance, Inc.
