Hoboken to hold special council meeting to vote on new insurance provider

HOBOKEN – The Hoboken City Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. so the council can vote on a new city insurance contract for Fairview Insurance.
Last year, the city paid $360,000 for insurance, according to a letter from Mayor Dawn Zimmer to the council. The current proposal that the mayor is recommending would cost the city $312,000 annually, and includes “Wellness Coaching” for city employees.
“This holistic approach to health and wellness will provide personalized service for our employees with one-on-one health counseling and development of health programs” Zimmer said in her letter.

The base price, without the wellness coaching, would cost the city $240,000, according to the letter.

A city spokesperson said the measure was being voted on in a special meeting to give more transition time for the proposed new broker, rather than simply voting on it at the scheduled Jan. 18 meeting. — Ray Smith
