Hoboken food trucks

Dear Editor:
I just wanted to weigh in on the ‘Food Truck Debate.’ I live in one of the residential apartments near 14 Street & the Hudson River. On most weeknights, food trucks park here to accommodate commuters coming off the NY Waterway ferry at the Uptown dock.
The trucks actually address a big void in this pocket of Hoboken, as there are no restaurants open at this time within a 3-block radius. [The Turning Point restaurant is great, but it’s only open for breakfast and lunch.]
While Downtown Hoboken is a dining Mecca with a myriad of choices, Uptown Hoboken: not so much. There are no brick-and-mortar establishments within a stone’s throw of where the trucks park uptown. These mobile kitchens–the Taco Truck, 2 Pitas in a Pod, Seoul Food NYC, etc–provide a convenient dining choice for Uptown residents. I find that the food is generally good and the vendors are courteous.
With that in mind, I hope Mayor Dawn Zimmer considers easing parking restrictions for these trucks on 14 Street, and drafts a workable plan that will keep operating food trucks viable.

Sincerely,
Augie Donnatelli
