More hot Thanksgiving meals available for the homeless

JERSEY CITY – In addition to the various free meals being offered to the community on Thanksgiving Day (see last weekend’s Jersey City Reporter cover story, “Hungry? Or want to help?”), volunteers working with Pastor Bill Sweeting’s Vroom Street Church will be preparing and giving out free hot Thanksgiving dinners to 50 homeless people. The traditional dinners, which will be distributed beginning Thanksgiving morning at 11 a.m., will be delivered to people living on the streets of Jersey City. Much of the food effort will be concentrated in the Journal Square transit area, which has a sizeable homeless population.
If you see someone living on the street who hasn’t eaten, or who may be in need of a meal tomorrow, please call Riaz Wahid at (201) 669-7608 to see if a meal can be delivered to that homeless person. – E. Assata Wright
