‘Happy Thanksgiving!’

To the Editor:
“In everything, give thanks.” That’s a pretty tall order, almost an impossible thing to do; be thankful for everything! Not just the good, fun things but the bad, terrible things! Especially in the times we are living in. But those are the instructions in the manual that people who call themselves Christians are taught to follow.
Two years ago, I was teaching a class of children the history of medieval England. During those times more than 50 percent of children died before they celebrated their first birthday! There was no running water in houses, no knowledge of the connection between cleanliness and germs and disease. And the 99 percent lived lives of what we would call today “below the poverty level.” No wonder so many left for America when they could! And I’m not talking about India or Africa but England!
After finishing the above subject, I was so glad that I am living in the 21st century and not medieval times. Though as a nation we, for the most part, are not the ardent followers of God that our forefathers were, I know most people still believe in Him. And when given a chance, they are thankful for all the good things we have.
This Thanksgiving, I am going to be together with my daughters and two grandchildren that I haven’t seen for quite some time and I am very excited! I have a roof over my head and food in my belly and I pray for all those who don’t have it so good, who are having a tough time now. They are the millions of Americans who will find it hard to be grateful this Thanksgiving.
