Democrats easily win in 32nd legislative district

Nicholas Sacco, mayor of North Bergen, has won his reelection as state senator in the 32nd legislative district. Sacco was opposed by Republican Edward T. O’Neill and independent Herbert H. Shaw. The election was held this past Tuesday.
Each district has one state senator and two assemblypeople.
Sacco, a Democrat, received 14,136 votes over O’Neill (R, 2,668 votes) and independent Shaw (504 votes). The two General Assembly seats were won by Vincent Prieto (D,13,579 votes) and Angelica M. Jimenez (D,13,214 votes) over Ronald F. Tarolla (R, 2,578 votes), Michael J. Bartulovich (R, 2,772 votes) and independent April Tricoli-Busset (407 votes).

Arc of Hudson County holds reception

The Arc of Hudson County, a not-for-profit organization that provides services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will hold a reception Thursday, Nov. 17.
The event aims to recognize the United Way of Hudson County and those who have contributed to the Arc of Hudson County.
The reception, featuring a DJ, will be held at 6 p.m. at Antonia’s by the Park restaurant at 9011 Palisade Ave. in North Bergen. For more information, call Nadia Cabana at (201) 319-9229.

Hearing scheduled for laid-off Galaxy employees

Former employees of the Galaxy Towers at 7000 Boulevard East will face a hearing before the National Labor Relations Board on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 9:30 a.m. in Newark, according to a complaint sent to The Reporter by Mike Deluca, a former board member for the Galaxy and administrator of Galaxy-Facts.com.
The roughly 60 employees, who were part of a union, were laid off on Aug. 1. Residents have said that some of the workers had been there for 25 years or more.
If the NLRB rules in favor of the former employees, the complaint has asked that the Galaxy Towers Condominium Association “restore its business operations as they existed.”

North Bergen boxer wins bout

North Bergen’s undefeated boxer Mariusz Wach defeated veteran Jason Gavern on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
The heavyweight Wach is now ranked 8 in the World Boxing Council.
Kamil Laszczyk, North Bergen, also remained undefeated after his first-round knockout over Chris Montoya.
