‘We were walking in the light’

To the Editor:
I met so many beautiful, big-hearted individuals through my involvement in our CROP Hunger Walk. A thank you from the committee will be forthcoming announcing the grand total Bayonne raised, as well as a list of all the restaurants and bakers who donated their delicious food and desserts for our celebration, the municipal leaders who gave us their help, etc.
Whether you contributed $1 or $1,000, as did T.J. Maxx, our top supporter, followed by BCB Community Bank, the bottom line is everyone is responsible for its success.
I personally thank Provident Bank and BCB for affording the opportunity to sell T-shirts and promote the walk on their premises; Rev. Patterson, pastor of Wallace Temple AME Zion Church and her gospel choir for their music ministry; DJ for all occasions Chris who is newly establishing his business and donated his time and talent; Gus Nicolaou for having my back with the food donations; and the Bayonne Explorers under the direction of Sgt. Foster, a shining example to the youth of our community who will be addressing a group of potential recruits at a date to be announced shortly, hosted by and at Wallace Temple; Orsini Tees; and more who were a pleasure to do business with. Mary never gets her feathers ruffled; she is my idol.
It was unfortunate that several events took place on the same day. I regret missing one that was special to me. Perhaps as a community we could attempt to avoid conflicts of interest. That may be easier said than done. The CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk will be back next year. We were thrilled with its revival and success after many years.
Thanks to Rev. J. Barbone, pastor of Our Lady of Assumption; Dr. Marie Varley, region director; and Dr. Sara Gil-Ramos, coordinator. Sorry if I pushed your buttons at times. And to you, the “Bayonne Community News,” for your coverage.
