The following is a letter Assemblyman Ruben J. Ramos, Jr. (D-33rd Dist.) sent to the Port Authority and to James Weinstein, executive director, New Jersey Transit:
Recently, I learned of a proposal to have the No. 7 train extend its route into New Jersey, terminating at the Secaucus Junction rail station. I am excited by this idea, as are many residents of Hudson County. As you know, many neighborhoods in Hudson continue to populate with commuters who travel to and from New York City on a daily basis.
While we are proud to welcome such commuters, it is my objective to ensure that adequate transportation is readily available for those who commute to New York City. More specifically, the City of Hoboken is home to a significant percentage of those who travel to and from New York City.
Consequently, I write to express my interest in the prospect of a station in Hoboken at which the No. 7 would stop.
While Hoboken residents are fortunate to have a local PATH station, there is certainly a demand for an additional mode of public transportation. Ridership at the Hoboken PATH station is extremely high and it is my contention that a stop for the No. 7 train in Hoboken would be a success for both commuters and public transportation entities.
