Funeral services were held Oct. 20 for Matthew F. Ruggiero, 90. He passed away Oct. 16. He was born in Hoboken and lived for many years in North Bergen before moving to Toms River in 1996. He was a lieutenant with the Hudson County Sherriff’s office in Jersey City for over 35 years before retiring. He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Distinguished Service Award, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was the husband of the late Viola Ruggiero and the father of Matthew W. Ruggiero and Millie Monroe. He was the brother of Francis Ferrando and the companion of Dorothea (Chickie) Booth. He was also the grandfather of Matthew A. Ruggiero and his wife Kelly and William Monroe. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
