SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — Rep. Steve Rothman announced a $4,662,000 Federal Transit Administration grant for the Frank R. Lautenberg Secaucus Junction Station on Monday. Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement today out of Washington, DC:
“I am proud to announce a Federal Transit Administration Bus Livability Program grant of $4,662,000 for Frank R. Lautenberg Secaucus Junction Station in Secaucus, New Jersey. Every federal dollar that is brought back for important local projects like this one is one less dollar that the already overburdened local taxpayers have to take out of their pocket.”
The Bus Livability Program makes funds available to public transportation providers to finance capital projects to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities, including programs of bus and bus-related projects for assistance to subrecipients that are public agencies, private companies engaged in public transportation, or private non-profit organizations.
The project was selected on a competitive basis through the FY 2011 Bus Livability Program. With the funding, New Jersey Transit will build a ground transportation facility at the Frank R. Lautenberg rail station to replace the current curb-side operation for buses with a more efficient configuration to improve transit operations at the site according to the U.S Dept. of Transporation. The project will also include pedestrian connections to the rail terminal and signage improvements around the station. The new ground transportation facility will relieve traffic congestion and create a safe and pedestrian friendly environment.
