A funeral service was conducted Oct. 5 at Monumental Baptist Church for Reverend Alonzo “Lonzo” Loftin. He passed away Sept. 25. He was born in Jersey City to Nelson and Erma Loftin. Alonzo was a graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Alonzo continued his education by attending Florida Memorial University, obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy and post-graduate degree, a Masters of Divinity, from the Union Theological Seminary in New York, New York. Alonzo is survived by his wife Cheryl and children Alonzo Jr., Christopher Sr., and Alia Loftin. Parents Nelson Loftin and Erma Loftin Northrop; Grandmother Martha Henry; Siblings Tyrone Loftin, Carol Lassiter, Linda “Bonnie” Loftin, Tamara “Tammy” Loftin of, and Anthony “Tony” Loftin; two grandchildren, Morgan and Christopher Loftin, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Kasmin McGhee, Alysha and Cameron Loftin; Laneeta Luke, Lamarr and Yvonne Lassiter; Neonta Morrison, LaVahn, Maya and Chase Loftin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
