Hoboken and dog business settle lawsuit over garage near Weehawken border

After more than a year, the city of Hoboken and Hoboken Unleashed, a local pet daycare center, reached a $15,000 settlement after a dispute over a garage property on the Weehawken/Hoboken border. The Hoboken City Council approved the settlement, awarding the money to Hoboken Unleashed, on Wednesday night.
The dispute originally arose in the summer of 2010 when Hoboken signed a lease to the Willow Avenue property while Hoboken Unleashed already had a lease in place. The issue became complicated when the city tried to move its municipal garage services to the site, hoping to establish a shared service agreement with Weehawken. Hoboken Unleashed took the city of Hoboken and the landlord of the property to court.
The property is located at 1714 Willow Ave. in Hoboken, underneath the Willow Avenue bridge. The site is only accessible through Weehawken.
Mayor Richard Turner publicly opposed the idea of the company moving to the site in January, when he and a busload of constituents attended a Hoboken Zoning Board meeting, citing concerns about an increase in traffic from the dog daycare company.
